PHP is an open-source, sever-side HTML embedded
scripting language used to create dynamic web pages. A
dynamic web page is a page that interacts with the user,
so that each user visiting the page sees customized
information. PHP is freely available and used primarily
on Linux (UNIX) web servers, and as an alternative to
Microsoft’s Active Server Pages (ASP) technology.
Although there are diversified methods to create dynamic
content like with Perl, Java, JavaScript, asp, Python
etc, the most powerful and remarkable strength of PHP
lies in its compatibility with many types of databases
such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Sybase, Informix,
ODBC etc. Moreover, it is especially designed for web
development. Additionally, PHP supports countless
standard protocols and can perform any task that any CGI
program can do.
